Item does not contain fulltextThese datasets contain the anonymized clean data used for analyses in the research described in the Computers in Human Behavior paper “The effects of group centrality and accountability on conformity to cyber aggressive norms: Two messaging app experiments” by Bleize and colleagues. The paper aimed to examine the effects of group centrality (the subjective importance of a group) and accountability (being accountable for one’s actions) on conformity to cyber aggressive group norms. The paper included two experiments in which participants took part in a scripted WhatsApp conversation (no real discussion). During the scripted conversation, adolescents judged the appropriateness of several cyber aggressive behaviors after viewing their ostensible peers’ responses, which were manipulated to be positive towards cyber aggression. The scripted conversation was used to measure conformity to cyber aggressive norms. Participants’ judgements and their answers to other questions are reflected in the datasets for each experiment. The data were collected in May and June 2018 (Experiment 1) and September and October 2019 (Experiment 2) at secondary schools across The Netherlands.
